CANON INFORMATION

CHARACTER NAME: Noboru Gongenzaka
CANON: Yu-Gi-Oh! ARC-V
HISTORY: BAM - Fair Warning they used dub names and dub terms so while the history makes note on any differences it can be. Odd to read.

STRENGTHS:

  • STEADFASTDetermined
If there is anything to be said about Gongenzaka, it's that he's a determined guy. He pursues his goals stubbornly, and relentlessly; and those goals very typically align with the welfare of others. When it comes to doing what is right, or doing something for those he cares about, there is nothing that can stand in his way- nor anything that can come past him. It might require something of a training montage to figure out what he needs to do, mind...but you can bet that he'll do it.

Such determination, combined with his caring nature, is what drives him to go so far as to break his own personal codes for the sake of others; this is touched on in his Moralistic flaw, but beyond what is noted there Gongenzaka has repeatedly thrown himself into danger for the sake of someone else, too determined to back down from what he feels needs to be done. It doesn't matter what it is, or what it takes; if he's decided there is a reason to pursue it, he won't stop.

  • Caring
Naturally as someone whose goals are so oriented around the protection and care of others, Gongenzaka is someone who is considered kind; he's a very openhearted individual, unafraid to show his affection for his friends for that matter- though it may cost their spine. He cries openly for them, and for their successes- and when they succeed at his expense, he has nothing but good words and pride for them. In general, his first focus in a situation will be on how those with him are doing- while he certainly steps back if he thinks they can handle something on their own, he wants to make sure that they can first.

  • Humble/Respectful
Such a willingness to step back requires the ability to be humble, and respecting of others. The most obvious indication of this aspect of Gongenzaka can be seen in how he speaks; he utilizes a very old manner of speech, 'Kono otoko no Gongenzaka' (loosely translated to mean 'I, the man Gongenzaka'), which in essence is a way of saying he is simply 'another person', no better than another. Gongenzaka in the series is known for this, and for actions that would otherwise be considered extreme in modern day (such as bowing face to the ground before another before politely requesting tutelage)- to so much as consider himself in another's debt is something that would require absolute apology and compensation, and he has more than once dramatically proclaimed his failings to be UNFORGIVABLE.

    FLAWS:

  • Self-punishing/Judging
Connected to the bottom-most Strength to Gongenzaka's name, Gongenzaka tends to tackle his seeming failings and flaws in fairly extreme ways. Sometimes, this results in positive change in the long run- such as seeking out the duelist who defeated him to request training. Often however, it results in a fairly self-deprecating episode, with Gongenzaka apologizing profusely to those he has failed to and thereafter dedicating himself to whatever training method he sees fit to ensure such actions never repeat. (We see an entire 'training montage' scattered across numerous episodes, after one single loss where his best friend's school was on the line- these exercises included pulling a boulder over a cliff, and standing directly beneath a waterfall...which are all pretty strenuous things to put yourself through!) This is largely due to these failures focusing around a particular level of standard which he feels he must meet- great expectations, and all that.

Notably, he exercises similar judgment toward other people (though he only rarely uses more than words to do so- and by more than words of course, we mean a Card Game in canon's case); if he feels someone isn't living up to their potential, or putting in the effort toward it, he will point it out...typically his caring nature keeps this in balance, but it can absolutely result in lasting negative judgement on those who simply seem to never care about failing to meet those expectations at all.

  • Worrying
In addition to the self-punishing actions he has for his own failures, Gongenzaka's care for others- specifically those he's grown close to- outright blind his actions if he isn't careful. The very idea that someone could be in distress while he's unable to rush off and make certain they're alright drives him to act rashly, moving with haste in a desperate effort to get to where he could be needed. While it could hardly be said that he acts in rage (it's actually astoundingly difficult to inspire true rage from Gongenzaka), it's absolutely accurate to say that his worry is crippling.

  • Moralistic/Inflexible (In the sense of being left stammering/protesting at things)
For all that Gongenzaka strives to uphold the idea of duty and kindness to others, he can be remarkably inflexible- and is absolutely honorbound. While he's quick to admit his failings, it takes time to consider solutions that aren't immediately within his usual 'box' of activities (he didn't initially go to his would-be-teacher in canon, because the idea that he needed to obtain a method of special summoning was simply outside the box of 'the Steadfast Style of Dueling'). Likewise, if someone's solution to an issue is a roundabout method involving say, a performance, or another activity, he'll probably protest about wasting time until it's explained. Time-wasting, and criminal activities in general are something that typically result in sputtered protests or scandalized shouting; and yet, his heart doesn't seem to allow him to put his foot down with more than words if someone keeps refusing...nor does it keep him from following after that someone as they pursue their poor decisions necessarily. And it definitely means no running when that someone is in trouble as a result...

One can see where it's going.

A notable aspect of this particular flaw, he has been shown to work alongside an otherwise corrupt system specifically for the sake of others. This particular instance was a case of prison guards taking bribes to provide adequate food; the bribe in his case was used to provide feeding to his cellmates. So it requires an obvious balance of morals.

Canon Abilities: Located here but in general he's just. EXTREMELY STRONG AND DURABLE?? We're not sure how this happened,

  • AU INFORMATION

    AU CHARACTER NAME: Noboru Gongenzaka
    AGE: 14
GRADE: 8 - Same as canon, frighteningly enough
    AU BACKSTORY:
  • Noboru Gongenzaka (henceforth referred to as Gongenzaka, or Gon) was born to a werebear mother, and a human father, in a somewhat isolated dojo in the northern regions of Japan's main island. His mother- presumably because of her own were state- survived this process, and naturally helped raise Gon as best a bitten-were could.
  • > Gon is raised within the Steadfast Dojo, as the third generation within the main family; the dojo's practices of self-control and meditation are instilled at a fairly young age, and thanks to those around him, has a relatively uneventful early childhood despite his obvious condition.

  • At the age of 9, while meditating in the woods and working with his bear state under the moon, Gongenzaka meets Yuuya Sakaki for the first time. Despite an interesting first meeting (he is initially mistaken for a familiar), the two become fast friends- to the point that Yuuya visits the dojo somewhat regularly in the future.

  • Unfortunately, all is not well in the dojo; when he is 11 an age-mate and fellow born were openly declares their thoughts and intentions to contrast the beliefs of the dojo (falling more in line with those celebrating the idea of Nightfall)- while no fight breaks out under the daylight, Gongenzaka is pulled into a tussle after moonset, losing his temper when the other riles him. Though he subdues the other, Yuuya rushes to celebrate and is unfortunately attacked by a still battle-charged Gongenzaka...only spared a fate worse than scarring by the quick actions of Gon's father.

  • Yuuya fortunately escapes without taking the blight curse, but bears scars from the incident. Gongenzaka throws himself more readily into the dojo's training as a result of the incident, while Yuuya is left to forever remember the true dangers of any lycanthrope- even one with exceptional control over themselves.

  • At 12 years of age, Yuuya is invited to attend Daybreak Academy. Gongenzaka, not wishing to be separated from his best friend, pleas with his father and mother to be allowed to go. They agree, specifically requesting that he work through the classes with 'the future of the dojo' in mind.

  • Gongenzaka thus enrolls into the Academy's 6th grade, taking electives focused toward understanding other perspectives of lycanthropy, as well as runic work and alternative methods for working with the condition. He does relatively well in his studies- maintaining good grades, and an otherwise 'clean' reputation thanks to his personally strict regimen for both physical and mental focus. He remains close to Yuuya through this time, attempting to keep his friend on their own course of life when it seems they may slip.

  • His time until the game begins passes relatively 'typically'; Gongenzaka at this point will not have joined in any missions, and will likely have to be encouraged to do so due to his hesitance around other students with personal bias against lycanthropes.

AU PERSONALITY DEVIATION: When it comes to canon deviation, there is (fortunately) not much involved. The main points of note are:

  • Gongenzaka's primary focus and personality traits have a more realistic focus; in canon of course, what with the series revolving around duel monsters, things can get a little bit ridiculous on the priorities...or at least in how they're resolved. While Gongenzaka is no fist-fighter, he obviously isn't going to be determining that the only way to settle things 'truly' is in a duel. Rather, he's more likely to try and move things to a situation where a talk becomes unavoidable.

And, well, if push comes to shove maybe he will shove back, but his attitudes remain the same in that he'll put his focus on defending and safely subduing/restraining the other instead of trying to pummel them into the earth.

Connected to this, his desire to bring the dojo forward into the future is a matter that won't need to be driven into his head- he knows full well that things change with time, and the dojo will need to change as well if they want to improve things when it comes to the lycanthrope's effect on the world.

  • Certain exaggerated emotions are subdued to a point- this 'to a point' is a bit key, as the fact is, after the first half of the first season (where the series starts to pick up its more Serious tone), Gongenzaka isn't bursting into tears because he's so touched by something. Not often anyway. While he'll still do it, it'll be more rare- much like how his Crushing Hugs are typically reserved for Yuuya (and that one IS canon)

  • While Gongenzaka still won't use contractions, and absolutely still sounds like an old fart, his trademark phrase- 'kono otoko no Gongenzaka' ('I, the man Gongenzaka' or 'This man, Gongenzaka', roughly)- won't be said so much. There's no real translation into English (or French for that matter), and since his AU incarnation can actually speak or somewhat speak both, it doesn't make sense for him to use it!

Beyond this, he's still the same emotional, caring giant of a boy who might just put a bit too high a bar on his personal standards when it comes to being a good citizen.

    RACE: Born Lycanthrope - Werebear
SECRET SOCIETY: Gongenzaka hails from the 'Gongenzaka Dojo'- a very small 'clan' of sorts located in Japan. It was founded by his grandfather's family after the family head in question was bitten and subsequently infected- by this point, Gongenzaka's father had already been born, which is why his dad is still human.

The dojo was founded with the idea of utilizing practices such as meditation and traditional kata with defensive focus to control and manage the instincts of their nightly forms. Practitioners of the 'Steadfast' way typically wear sashes across their shoulders, and iron geta as a symbol of this restraint, and while there can be no true escape from the full moon frenzy of a werebear form, they have at least relative control over how violent those forms become on other nights.

Alongside the physical practices, the Dojo enforces the idea of power and strength being used to defend and protect those in need; and more importantly, doing so without being forced to land a blow themselves. While Steadfast practitioners are certainly capable of fighting, they are typically trained to use more 'human' methods (Gongenzaka in particular has been known to improvise by using his geta in a manner not unlike a tonfa), and encouraged to only do so if absolutely necessary.

By the time Gongenzaka's father became the head of the dojo, a small following of other lycanthropes across the country would gather there- primarily bears, due to the species similarity, though there are a small few with differing animals as their infection base. Alongside this, he personally sought out training in Runic Arts for one specific purpose; treating those recently bitten.

Due to this, the dojo has about as many runic practitioners (Gongenzaka Sr. included) as there are Non-bear lycans, who are focused in emergency treatment of the recently cursed.

As the son of the Dojo head, Gongenzaka himself is expected to eventually take over the school. While this should not occur for a number of years (as far as anyone is aware anyway), it still places a lot of pressure to study what could benefit the dojo and further help the goals for the Steadfast clan. Part of Gongenzaka's attending Daybreak connects to this- it is the hope of his family that he can take what teachings there are and use them to further help the efforts of controlling their blighted forms, or at least preventing infection where possible.

    POWERS:
  • As a natural born Lycanthrope further focused within the Steadfast ways, Gongenzaka as a Werebear has a fair amount of control over himself even while in 'bear state'. Part of the teachings encourage taking form while exercising control over it; as such, he's capable of quite a lot within that state (including speech!).

  • Unfortunately, a loss of temper equates to a loss of control- while Gongenzaka is supremely level headed, the full moon becomes a fairly risky period of time and requires more meditation and exercise to keep in check. During the full moon, focus on such things as speech is also somewhat difficult- as it's the time where the blight is at its strongest.

  • Gongenzaka's werebear state is...well, best described as 'Gon, if he was a bear'. He doesn't get that much bigger, all things considered; though he does naturally gain the claws and jaws of the beast, becoming covered in fur and more readily able to run on all fours. His physical strength is naturally impressive in this state as well- but that's hardly surprising given what he is.

  • During the day, Gongenzaka is still fairly formidable when it comes to strength and skill; training at the dojo focuses on building strong durability against most forces, so he can take a lot of punches. (Naturally, these are still human limits though- he's not about to just get back up if someone stabs him with a sword or something)

  • As well, he has above-average senses- in particular, his sense of smell and hearing are closer to that of his bear form's.

HOUSING: No...preference? It would be preferred if he could be matched with someone who isn't immediately hostile toward lycanthropes however; it'd just be ICly easier on all sides involved that way oops.

    RP SAMPLE
A Sample may be any of the following:

► A group of threads totaling 10 comments in the TDM between at least two characters, with each thread having at least 3 comments from your character - Here!
► Answers for at least 10 of the sample questions, found here: https://thewatchers.dreamwidth.org/1112.html

  • INTERVIEW SAMPLE PROMPT
NOTE: Since the quiz is meant to be a sample in itself, these answers are from the mindset of 14 year old Gon (Rather than 12, when he would have enrolled)

    1. WHAT DO YOU MOST DESIRE FOR YOUR EDUCATIONAL EXPERIENCE?
To learn new techniques and gather valuable information toward the betterment of the dojo!
    2. WHAT DO YOU HOPE TO ACHIEVE IN THE FUTURE?
    Safer opportunities for lycanthropes!
    3. DESCRIBE YOUR IDEA OF AN IDEAL SCHOOL EXPERIENCE.
Auh- I should say...that an ideal school experience, is one with kind, and helpful teachers, who are still able to maintain the rules and order of the classroom; homework is balanced in such a way that proper time for extra-curricular activities can be managed, as well as important parts of life, such as sleep! Furthermore-

(He runs out of room on the paper here...but if the quiz is oral, it can be assumed he rambled for a fair while...)
    4. WHAT IS ESSENTIAL FOR A SCHOOL TO OFFER TO ITS STUDENTS?
    ...Oh. I...answered this, I think...

(He did, in the last question...)
    5. WHAT DO YOU FEEL MOST LIMITS YOU FROM ACHIEVING YOUR TRUE POTENTIAL?
What limits me..? ..Hnnn... ...That is... ...I should think...

    (He's stuck.)
    6. WHAT COURSE WORK EXCITES YOU? WHY?
Auh....so far, rune work is quite interesting!!

(He doesn't actually have a favorite...)
    7. WHAT COURSE WORK DO YOU DETEST MOST? WHY?
    .... (Grunting) English.

    (Someone's sore!)
    8. WHAT ACTIVITIES DO YOU PARTICIPATE IN OUTSIDE YOUR EDUCATION?
Mn! Typically, I focus on the training practices of the dojo, but in addition, I spend time with my friends, and in what they are doing..! ...Auh-

    And, as well, collecting things...

(He collects and organizes trading cards into binders.)
    9. WHEN GIVEN FREE TIME, WHAT DO YOU DO WITH IT?
    Training, of course!

    (...and also trading card collecting...)
    10. WHEN UNDER PRESSURE OF A TIGHT DEADLINE, HOW DO YOU RESPOND?
Naturally, I immediately set out to do what is necessary to meet the deadline!!
    11. WHAT DO YOU EXPECT FROM YOUR PEERS?
To do their best, in whatever goals they have!
    12. WHEN WORKING IN A GROUP, HOW DO YOU ORGANIZE TO ACHIEVE YOUR ULTIMATE GOAL?
Auh- A group? ...Well...I will typically ask the others what they have in mind of course...if we cannot agree after all, then we cannot be expected to succeed...

(The minute anyone begins to veer in a questionable direction he will judge quietly and grumble.)
    13. DO YOU FEEL YOU CAN RELY ON YOUR PEERS, OR DO YOU FEEL YOU MUST EXCEL ON YOUR OWN?
Naturally, if I cannot have faith in those around me, then it is a grim situation indeed...however! All the same, I cannot simply rely on others- I must be dependable as well, for those who need me as well!

(...He's missed the meaning of the question, but as it is, he's definitely the latter...)
    14. IN THIS EVER-CHANGING WORLD, WHAT MOST EXCITES YOU ABOUT THE FUTURE?
    AUH...E-Excite... That is...

    (He's....Stuck.)
    15. WHAT ABOUT THE FUTURE DO YOU FEAR THE MOST?
    ....

(He can't bring himself to answer; but his biggest fear is something happening to his friends and family)
    16. WHAT MEMORIES DO YOU HOPE TO HOLD AT THE END OF YOUR JOURNEY?
Any memory with Yuuya, and those who I meet here!
    17. WHAT IN THE FUTURE DO YOU FEAR THE MOST?
...AUH- Di... I answered this, did I not?!?

(To be fair, it is almost identical to #15-! His answer for this one would change too much however.)

    CHARACTER INFORMATION

    Noboru Gongenzaka
CARNIVAL JOB: Deputy to the Warden
JOINED: Under 1 Year Ago (At the Nether World)
TRAILER: #28 (Tent) | Shared with Jasper & Yuusei
    POINTS & AC: 24

    ⇨ CHANGES
✧COMMON CHANGE: Beastly claws, & teeth (incisors protrude from mouth)
✧COMMON CHANGE: A rough, sandpapery tongue
✧COMMON CHANGE: Shining eyes with slit pupils
    ✧COMMON CHANGE: Long, furred ears
✧COMMON CHANGE: Seemingly permanent shadow covering brows and eyes Altered to wave-like marks shimmering with his soul colour, against 'eyespots' of rust, as of Eden
✧COMMON CHANGE: Fae Markings, manifesting as slight swirls over chest fur,
and through cracks in his bark.

✩UNCOMMON CHANGE: Metalic-seeming Fur over the body (Former Patches, spread during Atlantis, became marble-seeming after Portland.)
✩UNCOMMON CHANGE: Beast-like facial features (Full Snout as of The Celebration; blame masks)
✩UNCOMMON CHANGE: Glowing Blood (Obtained in The Matrix)
✩UNCOMMON CHANGE: 'Aura of Magic' (Manifests as the glow of his soul while concentrating his energies for spells-obtained in the Mainframe)
✩UNCOMMON CHANGE: 'Supernatural Flexibility' (What it says on the tin; Gongenzaka is alarmingly flexible, able to curl or stretch beyond standard limits. Obtained in Wismuth)
✩UNCOMMON CHANGE: A pair of stone-like pronged horns (Obtained in the Manor's Second Hunt, due to temporarily being a Sin-You)
✩UNCOMMON CHANGE: Hole through his 'heart'; akin to Hollows (Obtained in Eden)
✵RARE CHANGE: Centaur-ine body with metal hooves at the rear, & 'grasping' paws at the front, resembling a 'Komainu'.
✵RARE CHANGE: Plantlife replacing the tail, as well as most hair, and portions of the body. Filled primarily with permanently red japanese maple leaves and dark coloured sakura flowers, the tail is additionally home to various wisteria vines. The wood works through the body in gnarled silver-barked 'roots', visible along the limbs in particular, and the vines are apparently the same wisteria plant as found in the tail. Despite appearances, he finds wearing shirts comfortable still, and is fine to carry things on his back. (Obtained from The Game in Mainframe)
✺UNIQUE CHANGE: 'An Enduring Spirit' (Obtained as a result of Portland's Alternate Life) - Due to his time among the undead, Gongenzaka's spirit is adept at survival without the physical body, and is more robust than typical. Tasks requiring a fortitude of spirit come more naturally, such as fighting possession, or astral protection.
✺UNIQUE CHANGE: After his arm was torn off and eaten by Zangetsu while participating in the Hunt at Heartstone Manor, Zangetsu helped to amend things by purchasing Gongenzaka a new, robotic one. This arm has a repulsor in it, and the metal is well polished.
✺UNIQUE CHANGE: Creation's Boon - Technically not a change; Gongenzaka, in the future, may be able to call upon the aid of Creation if they so need it. This was granted in return for his assistance in Wismuth. As of the Athenaeum, Gongenzaka has Used This Boon.
✺UNIQUE CHANGE: Scars - At present, Gongenzaka's scars include a gouge-mark through his solid eye resembling the 'sun', and a large 'gash' along his lower body which mars his bark. The latter was not actually a serious blow; it simply became compounded due to shifting from Octopus to Normal in Eden.

    ⇨ APPEARANCE NOTES

Gongenzaka, due to the limits of his body, typically wears a T-Shirt in addition to his headband and chest sash.

Occasionally there is the addition of a 'horse blanket',
though typically his fur keeps him plenty warm enough. The majority of his fur is a cream colour,
accented with shades of gold, though flecks of red can be found closer to the ears, and this rusty shade is strongest near the wood of his body (which is silver-barked).

    ⇨ CONTRACTS
1ST CONTRACT: Guarantee of safety should 'anything occur' (Revival Token; Used, paid for).
2ND CONTRACT: A Revival Token for Yuuya (as of S2:D30).

(I even have a pile of excuses ready for if there is ever a moment where it could be 'odd' that they wouldn't have at least greeted the other)

As an additional, less key note, the wiki tends to stick to dub names...so that's a thing.

Personality: In every manner of character association, one could liken Gongenzaka to a dog. He is a great and imposing sort, with immense strength to back it-but he is also immeasurably kind, loyal, and honorable as well. He is someone who finds excessive violence needless, and even 'UNFORGIVABLE!' in his words, living firmly by the code of what has been taught to him since he was young. Gongenzaka has grown up understanding what makes a 'true man' (in a figurative sense, rather than literal no doubt)-something that means understanding where might is right, and where those who are weak must be protected. Pity is not a word that fits in with his ideals...but he is far from unsympathetic to those in danger, and his heart is so great that this sense of care can even affect his personal judgement at times.

The teachings of the 'Steadfast' dojo Gongenzaka was born into concern more than anything a steadfast spirit. An unstoppable mountain in the face of what comes, and his dedication to these teachings have made him a man of strong focus toward what needs to be done. He observes his surroundings with a keen eye so that he can best determine hhow to counter, honing his strength and spirit through training not in order to be the best for himself, but to be the best he can be for others. To this end, he is in fact quite humble; not only does he refer to himself by 'kono otoko no Gongenzaka' (literally 'this man, Gongenzaka' or as translated 'I, the man, Gongenzaka')-a humbling term meant to say more or less that he is 'only' a man-he is willing to understand where he is lacking in ability. He has even asked former opponents, bowing deeply while making the request, for tutelage. It is a rare occurence indeed, but a very strong motion grounded entirely in respect for the other's skill.

Naturally, this makes him flexible in his beliefs as well-he is not bullheaded enough to see only one path for the way of a steadfast spirit, accepting that there can be many options in order to move forward with those beliefs. This open judgement allows him to recognize the flaws not only in himself but also others-discovering that for his dojo to continue through modern day their practices would need to adapt, or as with others, when a bad attitude needs some sense knocked against it.

A 'true man' after all, does not blindly ignore what may be in front of them. To be steadfast is to remain firm, but more importantly in his beliefs it is to be honorable-he believes in fighting no holds barred when a fight in fact occurs, dueling with all his might even against his friends. To show pity for the opponent, in his eyes, is to show a lack of respect for their own skill as well-his very cards, as per the Steadfast style, reflect this. 100% monster cards, showing an absolute faith in the monsters rather than relying on magic or traps to boost them-this unshakable faith carries over to real people as well, becoming a care for the rights and opinions of others as well.

This care-as hinted before-can backfire heavily. Gongenzaka can become increasingly consumed with worry if he isn't careful, losing sight of his opponent's strategies, and leaving himself open to easy attack. Not long before arriving at the Carnival in fact, it was desperation over the wellbeing of his friends that forced him to break the code of his Steadfast teachings; using an action card in order to draw the attention of a dangerous opponent to him, lest they end up as good as killed.

It can be said that he is an emotionally open person, for this reason-the only thing holding him back are perhaps those very 'Steadfast' teachings in fact; were it not for the need to keep his feet rooted on the ground and his fists at his sides the first person to so much as imply harm upon his friends-or in some cases merely question their own honor-would have him at their throats in a rage. Instead, he holds himself back-and unless already provoked into sheer panic channels that rage into words and dedication to what is honorable in his eyes. It's a state of control that allows him to offer considerable amounts of adivce to those who need it-admittedly, at the cost of 'sounding like an old man' (he really does talk like one too).

Control is better employed for anger though-Gongenzaka's morals are such that even the suggestion that he go outside it can catch him in a state of stuttering fluster, his words sometimes even lost completely in lieu of shock; naturally the same can be said for anything that shocks him, with bold counters to his protests against what is 'wrong' often being met with red-faced stutters as he holds himself back. His excitement is even louder-Gongenzaka grins widely, cries openly if even the slightest event touches his heart. While he can subdue things to mere proud smiles, it is roaring declarations, and overflowing tears of joy where his heart lies in full, with bone-crushing hugs often accompanying the gesture.

...In contrast, sadness is his quietest emotion. Weakness is unforgivable in his practice-he shames himself for his mistakes openly, bearing the weight of his mistakes until they drive him through the wall of despair and into a path of renewed determination to make things right. While he stews on his shame and sadness in silence, it is not in his nature to dwell upon it after all. Such an act would be UNFORGIVABLE when others could need him!

And for those who need him, he thus remains forever steadfast-loyal and honorable in his actions, sputtering at so much as the idea of anything illegal, crying and breaking spines over the simplest of achievments his friends have made. 'Always repay another's kindness'-with this rule sitting among his teachings in Steadfast ways, he's a man of strong feelings and strong beliefs...

...And with the added experiences of the Carnival, and of the war, these Steadfast ways will be put to the greatest of tests.

Abilities: Gongenzaka himself has no 'special' abilities of note; he is, however, naturally quite strong and durable, taking the full blow of more than a few monster attacks under real damage, and even sustaining the injuries caused by a solid vision pillar falling directly on his back. While solid vision is typically considered less durable/heavy/damaging than any real object, the fact that something solid enough to remain standing as a support pillar under ordinary circumstances fell on him is still pretty telling. (Not to mention, he's caused actual gusts of wind just by drawing cards!)

Aside from this, Gongenzaka's duel disk is a modified 'real damage' disk; while limited in strength, monsters summoned with the device are sturdy enough to interact with the surroundings and even fight if Gongenzaka so desires. The disk is also pre-programmed with an Action Field, which causes various platforms to appear within a certain radius, as well as action cards (the latter of which are useless to him).

    CARNIVAL
Soul Colour: A steely, icey blue!
    Ideal Jobs:
    * Patrol
    * Bouncer
    * Patch (because I need three options here or it bugs me)

    Relevant Experience:

For the most part, Gongenzaka is both visibly and characteristically suitable for the roles with the Warden. He is physically fit, and strong-and where his personal moral code makes the idea of acting as a Mercenary difficult, it makes acting as a Bouncer ludicrously easy. As a Patrol-member, Gongenzaka would take the role more than seriously-and had he been present at any time for venues such as the demon realm, would have thrown himself into the task of evicting any less than savory patrons causing havoc.

He is diligent, and noble, but most importantly he is one who thinks about his actions before acting; for this reason, he could in fact make a good Patch as well. He prefers talking through a situation rather than using force, and if violence can be avoided, he will do so quite readily. His imposing size gains attention, but his voice and mannerisms make it easy to calm a situation before it starts.

...Assuming the others aren't just looking to make trouble (cue the Physical side).

Carnival History: Gongenzaka, despite being a veteran, is not a very 'long lived' one (LAUGH WITH ME). He arrived not long before the Carnival moved to visit the Nether World; during a brief moment of time where the great gates landed themselves in Academia's training field, a curious trio consisting of Shingo Sawatari, Jack Atlas (ARC-V's version naturally), and Gongenzaka, found themselves wandering in when they intended to wander through the gates of Academia's halls-with Gongenzaka being supported by the first two due to his earlier sustained injuries.

They stayed only for a few hours; using acceptable amounts of cash to obtain drinks and whatever else would be needed to recover, Jack and Gongenzaka in particular were quick to get them all out of the place again; at which point they realized no time had passed at all.

Not long before, Gongenzaka had been forced to break the code of his dueling style for the sake of saving his friend, the style that he would one day inherit the right to teach. While his friend successfully overcame their opponent, his own efforts had done nearly nothing-even when it came to the act of mere protection. These two points combined to inspire him to go inside again, seeking out the Ring Master in particular to make a request; as odd as it was, he had seen for himself the potential there could be in training in this place, and he was not above humbling himself if it meant the chance to learn and better his techniques for the sake of others. So after some debate with the Ringmaster (as that same dedication meant he had no desire for magic power or objects) he had for himself a year long contract, just in time to travel to...the Nether World.

What a lovely way to start things off in the work place.

Being the man he was, it was easy for him to be picked up by the current warden for work. Their ideals, to an extent, lined up nicely, and in Gongenzaka's eyes it was something of an honor to train under someone who clearly took their tasks as seriously as they did. As unnerving as sustaining changes over the time there was, Gongenzaka adapted to things well, and dedicated himself entirely to the reason he was there.

    Training.

Rather awkward in the Nether World, suffice to say.

The world of Wizards was even more awkward, if anything, though he could well be among the few who actually enjoyed it. As much as he didn't particularly care for the idea of magic in any setting, it in fact made it easier to understand how the wizards did their thing; and as much as some snubbed their nose at his nonmagical self, he managed to charm quite a crowd with his duel disk, and even made an agreement to 'test their mettle' against each other. (Which is to say, firing various charms and hexes to try and knock him over, while he himself attempted to stand still.)

He was far more at home in the Scifi Utopia needless to say. And yet, also homesick, and questioning-and in other ways, more determined than before. A glimpse at the 'future' can do that when you think you're needed to pave the road there, and it gave him quite the boost of energy when it came to chasing after various villains once they entered the world of Super Heroes.

Entering the world of Steampunk though? It was odd.

In a sense that marked the end of 'easy mode' for Gongenzaka. From here the Carnival made its return trip to visit the Omnipresent Super Being, and with its cryptic warning, he was left to simply do his job and wait.

    And worry.

And then they came upon the Vampire War.

When the Nightrunners unintentionaly brought back what they did, Gongenzaka fought valiantly for the sake of both the patrons and employees of the carnival there-he became, in the words of those who last saw him alive, almost like a beast. Perhaps not a 'wild' one in that sense of the word, but something impossible to terrify, something one could call a 'guardian'. Despite successfully saving those with him at that time however, it cost Gongenzaka his life-he perished just as the war came to its end, triggering the revival contract he had enacted.

For whatever reason however, the revival took some time to take effect; it could have been that the spell itself wasn't activated immediately. There was much to recover from, and the Ringmaster herself was more than distracted after all. It could have also been that there was some sort of magic even interfering with it-following the war, the locations the Carnival visited were (not counting the Summerlands of course), perhaps not the best ones to bring someone fresh from war back into. The crossroads are a mishmash of locations, and the dreamlands flat out unstable at times, so waiting on the perfect location could have been necessary as well.

Either way, with how quickly and unexpectedly it came to be that the contract's 'prize' was necessary, it is unsurprising that it took some time to be 'completed'.

What IS surprising is these new legs. Also who the new warden is. THIS IS UNFORGIVABLE!!!

Existing Contract: 'The chance to revive should something happen while I am here'
Details: Since Gongenzaka insisted quite heavily on training only under his own power, he and the Ringmaster eventually came into an agreement for a Revival boon; the revival itself was prepared for and readied immediately, while the year and a day would then be to pay it off.

While the revival itself has been 'cashed in', Gongenzaka is thus still working off the remaining 'debt' used to obtain it.

Current Changes: An image can be found here, complete with a topless ref! SCANDALOUS. The T-Shirt isn't typical.
    Common: 7 Changes
    * Beastly claws & teeth
    > These changes began to appear within his first week of work
    * Various patches of fur, often with a metalic sheen
    > On week one, this manifested as clumps near the face, and on the chest.
    > By week four, these clusters began developing heavily at the joints
    > Week 11, and patches at the wrists, ankles, and shoulders in particular became especially 'fluffy'.
    > Week 22, his final week before death, and large patches had developed around his waist and all along his fore-arms and shins as well.
    * A rough, sandpapery tongue
    > This came in during his fifth month, much to his shock.
    * Shining eyes with slit pupils
    > These changes came into being starting his second month, but did not glow until the start of the third.
    * Long, furred ears
    > His ears began to point and become furred in his second month; it was not until his fourth month that they were truly animal-like, and it was his uncommon change which truly made them large and 'mobile' animal ears.
    * A seeming permanent shadow over his eyes
    > This change developed in minor amounts starting on his fourth month, deepening into the permanent shadow once his uncommon change arose.
    * Fae Markings: Manifesting currently as slight swirls over his chest.
    > This change came into being alongside his rare one, likely due to the amount of magic involved. It's likely their actual meaning is connected to this process.

    Uncommon:
    * Beast-like facial features (look this was the closest ref that actually looks like it came off a human face shhhh)
    > During the Vampire War Gongenzaka's desire to protect the others combined with his exposure to the magic of the carnival, manifesting in his first uncommon change to make his visage more 'beast-like'; while it would seem he could bear a permanent scowl because of this, he seems to give an air of his usual calm despite it.

    Rare:
    * Taur Body Form; Resembing Kyu-B to an extent, the taur-body is a strange blend of equine and canine, with a tail so heavily furred it seems to be nine in one (it's just one though...for now). The forelimbs have paws, but the back limbs seem to be hooved in a sense.
    > Upon his revival, Gongenzaka found himself in possession of a dramatically altered body, by way of extra limbs...not to mention size. Oops.

    Mental:
    * Certain animal-like behaviors, including the tendency to straighten bits of his hair/fur with a licked hand
    * Unconscious animal vocalizations! Panting or irritated words in particular often have a growly sort of edge to them
    * An instinctive fear of iron, much to his dismay (though to be fair he had to trade his geta in for an alternate material at the front gates to begin with)
    * An impressively increased desire to protect what he considers 'his'
    * A preference for 'simpler' things (duel disk excluded, somehow), but not necessarily 'natural' (a good example; handwash vs machine wash)
